Kia K5 Fuel-Economy and Pricing Data
EPA estimates distinguish drivetrain and trim rather than describing observed owner consumption. For the 2024 U.S. model year, the front-wheel-drive LXS, EX and GT-Line each receive the same 27 city, 37 highway and 31 combined mpg estimate, while the GT-Line AWD is rated 25 city, 33 highway and 28 combined mpg.
| 2024 U.S. trim or drivetrain | City mpg | Highway mpg | Combined mpg |
|---|---|---|---|
| LXS FWD | 27 | 37 | 31 |
| EX FWD | 27 | 37 | 31 |
| GT-Line FWD | 27 | 37 | 31 |
| GT-Line AWD | 25 | 33 | 28 |

The 2024 launch MSRPs were $25,290 for LXS, $28,690 for GT-Line and $31,990 for GT, all before destination charges. Kia’s 2025 announcement lists the LXS FWD at $26,990 before a $1,155 destination charge, GT-Line FWD at $27,990, GT-Line AWD at $29,590, EX at $34,490, and GT at $33,090, with the latter figures stated before destination where applicable.

Kia also changed the mainstream 2025 powertrain: the 1.6-liter turbo engine was replaced in most trims by a 2.5-liter normally aspirated engine rated at 191 hp, while the GT remained a separate performance variant.
Kia K5 Crash-Test Safety Statistics and Injury Measurements
IIHS ratings combine categorical evaluations with controlled dummy and intrusion measurements. They should not be read as population injury probabilities or real-world crash rates.
For the driver- and passenger-side small-overlap tests conducted for the 2021 model, IIHS applied Good overall ratings to 2021–26 K5 models. The driver-side test recorded 3 cm of maximum lower hinge-pillar intrusion, 4 cm of driver-side footrest intrusion, a driver HIC-15 of 78, and driver chest compression of 23 mm.
The passenger-side test recorded 4 cm of lower hinge-pillar intrusion, passenger HIC-15 of 83, and passenger chest compression of 23 mm.

The updated moderate-overlap test for the 2023 K5 produced a Poor overall rating, applying to 2023–26 models. That test recorded 9 cm of brake-pedal intrusion and a driver HIC-15 of 184; the rear passenger dummy recorded 3.9 kN of neck tension and 7.3 kN of shoulder-belt tension.
The updated side test received a Marginal overall rating for the 2023 test vehicle, with driver torso maximum deflection of 43 mm and driver HIC-15 of 216. These results describe the IIHS protocols and test vehicle, not the odds of injury for every K5 occupant.
Kia K5 Insurance-Loss and Theft Statistics
HLDI indexes standardize results against comparison populations: 100 equals the all-passenger-vehicle result in the cited table. Exposure is measured in insured vehicle years, so it is not the same as total K5 sales or the number of vehicles on the road.
In HLDI’s 2020–22 medical-payment analysis for U.S. K5 2WD/4WD vehicles, exposure was 52,367 insured vehicle years. Relative medical-payment claim frequency was 197 for claims of any amount, 191 for claims over $500, 181 for claims over $1,000 and 180 for claims over $2,000.

HLDI’s 2020–22 collision-loss table records 165,461 insured vehicle years for the K5 2WD/4WD. The relative overall collision-loss index was 154, and relative collision claim frequency was 158; these are standardized insurance results rather than repair-cost dollar amounts.

The later HLDI whole-vehicle-theft table covers 2022–24 model years and lists 296,756 insured vehicle years and 129 theft claims for K5 2WD/4WD. Its standardized indices were 97 for theft claim frequency, 54 for theft claim severity and 53 for overall whole-vehicle-theft losses.

Kia K5 Ownership-Scale and Equipment Measurements
The K5 nameplate was introduced for the 2021 model year, replacing the Optima nameplate in Kia’s lineup. That transition is a lineup-history fact, not a sales-volume measure.
For the 2024 U.S. K5, Kia lists 46.1 inches of front legroom, 35.2 inches of rear legroom and 58.0 inches of front shoulder room. Front headroom is 40.2 inches and rear headroom is 37.8 inches without the panoramic sunroof, while minimum ground clearance is 5.3 inches.
Source: 2024 Kia K5 Specifications. The headroom figures are configuration-specific; the roof option changes the measurement.
IIHS lists two rear seating positions with complete LATCH hardware and one additional tether-only position for the tested K5. For 2023–26 models, IIHS rated the seat-belt-reminder evaluation Acceptable.
In the controlled 2023 seat-belt-reminder test, background cabin sound pressure was 52 dB at 24 km/h, while the audible seat-belt signal measured 60 dB at 24 km/h. These are test-condition equipment measurements, not rates of seat-belt use by K5 owners.
