60 Kia Production Statistics: Global Output, Sales and Sustainability Data

Kia production statistics span several different measures: ex-factory sales, wholesale sales, retail sales, energy use and financial performance. The figures below identify the period, geography and definition for each measure so that production activity is not confused with registrations or revenue.

Kia’s investor-relations page reports ex-factory sales in thousand units. This is an operational sales measure, not a direct count of vehicles physically produced and not a retail-registration total.

Period Global ex-factory sales Definition
2023 3.064 million Kia global ex-factory operations
2024 3.024 million Kia global ex-factory operations
2025 3.037 million Kia global ex-factory operations

The 2024 annual wholesale figure was 3,089,300 vehicles, a separate measure published in Kia’s 2024 results release. Because the release distinguishes wholesale sales from production and retail sales, it should not be silently substituted for the ex-factory series.

Kia Production by Korea, Exports and Overseas Operations

Kia’s ex-factory categories separate Korea, exports from Korea and overseas operations. Exports are not overseas production, so the categories describe different operating channels.

Category 2024 2025 Geography or definition
Korea ex-factory sales 540 thousand 546 thousand Korea
Export ex-factory sales 1.004 million 1.014 million Exports from Korea
Overseas ex-factory sales 1.480 million 1.477 million Kia overseas operations

The quarterly results release provides another geographic split for Q4 2024: Kia reported 140,934 domestic wholesale sales in South Korea and 629,051 overseas wholesale sales outside South Korea. Together, these are quarterly wholesale figures, not the same categories as the annual ex-factory table.

Eco-Friendly Kia Vehicle Production and Sales Data

Kia’s sustainability report uses a wholesale standard and combines HEVs, PHEVs and EVs in its eco-friendly total. The 2024 values labeled as targets are forecasts rather than observed outcomes.

Category 2022 observed 2023 observed 2024 published target
Eco-friendly vehicles 492,593 598,846 760,888
HEVs 254,327 311,671 871,865
PHEVs 81,766 88,861 Not provided here
EVs 156,500 198,314 307,165

The later 2024 results release uses different bases and reports 638,000 eco-friendly vehicles sold globally in 2024, up 10.9% year over year. It also reports 164,000 eco-friendly vehicles in Q4 2024, up 14.5% year over year, and 100,000 hybrid vehicles, compared with 76,000 in Q4 2023, a reported 31.7% increase.

Q4 2024 sales mix Share Scope
Eco-friendly vehicles 21.5% Kia global sales
Eco-friendly vehicles 42.3% South Korea domestic sales
Eco-friendly vehicles 19.3% United States sales
Eco-friendly vehicles 40.1% Western European sales

Kia Manufacturing Energy and Emissions Intensity

Kia’s sustainability reporting covers domestic and overseas production sites. Total energy consumption fell from 3,794,359 MWh in 2022 to 3,637,639 MWh in 2023, while the categories below identify the reported energy sources.

Production-site measure 2022 2023
Total energy consumption 3,794,359 MWh 3,637,639 MWh
Non-renewable energy 3,653,010 MWh 3,486,109 MWh
Renewable energy 141,349 MWh 151,575 MWh
Total energy intensity 4.38 MWh per KRW 100 million 3.64 MWh per KRW 100 million

For reported production operations, Kia’s 2023 GHG emissions intensity performance was 0.41 tCO2e per unit, against a 0.50 target. The report gives a 2024 target of 0.34 tCO2e per unit, which is a forecast target rather than observed performance, and notes a change in units and data coverage beginning in 2023.

Kia Production, Revenue and Operating Performance

Financial data provides scale context but does not measure production volume. Kia’s consolidated revenue was KRW 107,449 billion in 2024 and KRW 114,141 billion in 2025, according to its investor-relations financial graphs.

The 2024 results release reports KRW 107.4488 trillion of revenue, KRW 12.6671 trillion of operating profit and an 11.8% operating margin for the consolidated company. These figures are financial results, not manufacturing yield or unit production cost measures.

Kia in the U.S. Vehicle Mix and Efficiency Context

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency data supplies industry context for Kia vehicles produced for the U.S. market. These are model-year 2024 measures and should not be presented as Kia’s global production categories.

U.S. new-vehicle production totaled 14,799,239 vehicles in model year 2024. The EPA estimated Kia’s real-world fuel economy at 29.2 mpg, compared with an estimated 27.2 mpg average for all U.S. new vehicles, up 0.1 mpg year over year.

U.S. model-year 2024 context Reported figure Scope
Truck SUVs Almost 50% of production U.S. industry
Cars and trucks under NHTSA classifications 34% cars; 66% trucks U.S. industry
Battery-electric car SUVs 30% U.S. car-SUV production
Plug-in-hybrid car SUVs 3% U.S. car-SUV production
Battery-electric truck SUVs 4% U.S. truck-SUV production
Plug-in-hybrid truck SUVs 4% U.S. truck-SUV production

Source: 2025 EPA Automotive Trends Report: Fuel Economy, and Technology since 1975. The vehicle-type shares are industry measures, not Kia-only production shares.

The EPA also reports that the average U.S. model-year 2024 new vehicle weighed 4,354 pounds and produced 258 horsepower. Kia increased its U.S. truck-SUV production share by more than five percentage points from model year 2023 to 2024, but the cited comparison does not provide Kia’s absolute unit count.
